Neil Carpenter is no stranger to Fashions on the Field (FOTF). However, it was by only chance that Neil first stumbled across the world that is FOTF after being approached to enter his very first competition in 2017. Fast forward 3 plus years not only has he suit, shoe, tie, socks (the list can go on) collection grown exponentially but also has his keen interest in keeping abreast of both men’s and women’s racewear fashion trends, globally.
Over the past 3 years, Neil has been awarded many ‘Gentleman of Day’ sashes not only within his home state of NSW but also QLD, VIC, ACT, TAS and most recently (pre-COVID) SA at the Adelaide Cup. Some on Neil’s most notable wins include:
- Cairns Amateurs, Cannon Park (QLD)
- The Everest, Royal Randwick (NSW)
- The Championships (Derby Day), Royal Randwick (NSW)
- Derby Day (Top 3), Flemington (VIC)
- Stradbroke Handicap, Eagle Farm (QLD)
- Dubai World Cup (Best Dressed Couple), The Meydan (Dubai)
- Launceston Cup, Launceston Racecourse (TAS)
- Black Opal, Thoroughbred Park (ACT)
In September 2019, Neil was awarded the Best Dressed Gentleman winner at the Cairns Amateurs race day.
Whilst it would be remiss to not acknowledge the excitement of winning and collecting the illustrious sash, Neil gets more enjoyment putting outfits together and ‘scowering’ instagram pages for race wear ideas and concepts coming out of Europe.
Away from fashions, Neil’s other hobbies include long-distance running, show horses and the occasional TV game show.
Neil is honoured to be officiating at the 2020 Cairns Amateurs 2020 Virtual Fashions on the Field competition and offers this small piece of advice ‘Confidence is key both on stage and in front of the camera’.
